at Struggletown Vet Hospital
We are currently not offering boarding services at this time in the clinic, but we do offer as a drop off and pick up point for multiple boarding facilities. Please phone the clinic for any further information, and watch this space for any updates on our boarding.
We look forward to having your fur babies come stay with us here at Struggletown. The health and well being of our boarding pets is very important to us so it is important that owners read the following information and that the rules and regulations are adhered to.
Accommodation and Boarding Periods
The cattery is situated in a separate air-conditioned and noise-proofed room. The cats are housed in two-level cages with an upstairs bed lined with a fluffy blanket for sleeping and downstairs for a litter box and a feeding area. If you have two cats, you can choose to board them in together or separately if you prefer.
Our dedicated animal attendants will take care to ensure that your cat’s stay will be as comfortable and stress free as possible. Friendly and outgoing cats are given time out of their cage twice a day for social interaction with our cattery staff unless deemed too stressed or too shy.
We will not accept cats to board for more than a four-week period. We can provide details of more suitable facilities should you require a longer stay.
Cats can become anxious when in boarding as they are creatures of habit and dislike being taken out of their normal environment. We often find that cats will eat poorly for the first day there but will usually settle by day two. We try to minimise the stress they experience by:
- Limiting their visual or auditory contact with any dogs in the clinic.
- Limiting their experience with other cats.
- Assessing if they need more attention (eg Burmese cats will be much happier with some personalised attention) or less (some cats are stressed by strangers and need to have a minimum of handling).
- Using a Feliway vapouriser if and when necessary (this releases a pheromone that has a calming and settling effect on cats).
We provide our boarding cats with a premium quality dry food twice daily (morning and evening). Should your pet have special dietary needs or is a fussy eater then please advise our staff as this can easily be accommodated.
If your cat has a wet food diet, please provide enough food for the duration of the stay with clearly marked instructions on how much and when to feed your pet.
Should we require to feed a boarding cat with a wet diet for any reason (eg it won’t eat the dry kibble provided) this will incur an additional cost of $2 per can of premium wet food.
Please be advised that, due to WH&S for our staff, we are unable to provide a raw food diet during your pet’s stay in our facility.
Vaccination and Health Care
UNVACCINATED CATS CANNOT BOARD AT OUR FACILITY. NO EXCEPTIONS. All cats with an out of date vaccination status MUST be fully vaccinated with an F3 vaccination AT LEAST two weeks prior to their stay with us.
If your cat has regular up to date vaccinations at Struggletown and it falls due around the time of boarding then we can vaccinate your pet on arrival.
Please ensure your cat’s worm and flea treatment is up to date before their stay. Let us know if you require us to do this by filling out the appropriate section on the boarding form. All cats coming in to boarding will be administered with a single flea tablet called Capstar on admission to ensure all animals are flea free when entering our facility. This will be at a cost of $7 to the owner.
Drop off and Collection
Boarding drop off and pick up times will be between:- 7.30-9.30am and 4.00-6.30pm Mon to Fri and 9.00-11.00am and 4.00-6.30pm Sat and Sun Please allow yourself 10-15 minutes when you arrive so that the nurses/animal attendants can check your details, go over the boarding form and ask about any special needs you’re pet may have. Please advise at time of boarding if your pet needs any veterinary attention during its stay with us and stipulate this on the boarding form.
Fees and Bookings
Cat boarding is $29 per calendar day
Public holiday surcharge is double the daily rate (so $58).
Peak holiday periods (ie Easter, Christmas and all school holidays) and long weekends will require a non-refundable deposit of $100 to be paid in order to secure and hold the booking. Full payment will be required when your pet is admitted for boarding and any deposit that has been paid will be deducted at this time.
A medication fee of $7 per day will be incurred if your cat requires to be administered medication during its stay. This cost is regardless of how much or how many times the medication is given.
Upon making a booking at our facility, you will be emailed a copy of your cat’s boarding form. Please take time to read, complete and sign this and return it to as soon as possible, documenting any medical or behavioural problems your cat has, any veterinary treatment that may be required, along with proof of vaccination status. Please be advised that the booking will not be confirmed until we are in receipt of this form.
Special Care and Other Important Information
Struggletown reserves the right to refuse admittance to any cat displaying signs of a contagious illness. If your pet develops any signs of being unwell at any times prior to coming in to boarding, it is your responsibility to book it in for a consultation with one of our vets in order to assess health status and suitability for boarding. If your pet is still able to stay with us but will require daily medication, this will incur the additional daily charge of $7 for the duration that the medication needs to be administered. However, should your pet be assessed as unfit for boarding and you are unable to make alternative arrangements for your pet’s care, it MAY be possible to house your pet in our isolation facility, SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY, at a cost of double the normal daily boarding rate.
In the event that your cat develops any contagious illness during its stay and needs to be transferred to our isolation area, the additional cost of double the daily rate will be incurred by the owner.
Any cats over 10 years of age, that are not regular patients at Struggletown, will require a health check consultation to assess and discuss any possible health concerns at least ONE WEEK prior to boarding. Unfortunately, the stress of boarding in a strange environment can sometimes exacerbate underlying conditions that were not immediately obvious to the owner. A health check can minimise the risk of potential complications during a boarding stay.
IF YOU WILL BE OVERSEAS OR NON-CONTACTABLE DURING YOUR PET’S STAY, PLEASE PROVIDE US WITH AN ALTERNATE PERSON TO CONTACT WHO HAS PERMISSION TO MAKE VETERINARY DECISIONS FOR YOUR ANIMAL IN THE EVENT THAT THIS BECOMES REQUIRED.
May we take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to read and understand our boarding conditions and for complying with our policies.
